Junior County Badminton Report
The county junior badminton season ended with the prestigious Harrod U/17 Inter Counties Tournament played at Nottingham University. Forty counties entered the competition, with every player cheering on their own team to produce a deafening noise and the usual electric atmosphere.
In the first round Norfolk lost all three of their matches, to Ulster 9-1, Leicester 8-2 and Oxford 8-2. In the last match Devon Minnis played an incredible singles game, beating England international, Brodie Miller, in three exciting sets. In the second round Norfolk met counties of a similar standard, beating Shropshire and Berkshire but losing to Notts and Worcester.
This left the team playing for places 33-36 in the final round. They got off to a good start beating Wiltshire 7-3, and followed this by drawing with Cornwall on matches played, but losing by one game. The final match was against the Isle of Man, which Norfolk won 9-1, leaving them on top of their group and elated at finishing the tournament on such a high note. Everyone enjoyed the Nottingham Experience, with one player summing it all up by saying "It was a journey like an emotional rollercoaster. We had ups, lots of downs, but we ended up winning, smiling and being better players"
The Norfolk squad was Tom Hinks, Sam Dismore, Ed Allen, James Bailey, Nico Schilling, Devon Minnis, Emma Piper, Amy Sharman, Lauren Reed and Kathryn Adamson
Buckinghamshire won the tournament, being only the second county to take the ICT trophy away from Yorkshire in 12 years, Surrey are the other.
