Under 12s County Restricted
Rebecca Heeles and Kurtis Lefevre were the stars of the Under 12s Norfolk Schools Championships both winning the singles and level doubles titles. The championships, played at the Blyth Jex Sports Hall, attracted an entry of over 40 players from schools throughout the county. In the girls singles final, Rebecca, from Thorpe House, played Rebecca Chapman (Springwood High), who did well to defeat Holly Bowen (North Wootton) in the second round. There were many well-contested points in the final with both girls showing good athleticism and determination, but it was Rebecca Heeles who came out on top, with her more penetrating overhead shots proving to be the decisive factor in her 15-6 victory. The girls doubles was played as a round robin, with Rebecca partnered by Katie Chilvers (North Denes Middle) winning all their games to become champions, the decider being against Holly Bowen and Rebecca Chapman, whom they beat 15-12 in another close contest. It was very encouraging to see the rapidly improving standard of play in the girls competitions at this age group, which is normally dominated by the boys.
The boys singles went very much as expected, with four regular county players winning through to face each other in the semi-finals. Kurtis Lefevre, from St Thomas More, beat Luke Cox (Acle High) 15-7, while Mark Robinson (Lingwood) came out on top against Adam Stubbing (KES), also 15-7. The final was a good game, but Kurtis was always a little too powerful for his younger opponent, taking the crown with a 15-4 victory. The same four players contested the final of the boys doubles. This was an excellent contest with all four boys playing well, but Kurtis and Adam ran out 15-11 winners.
The players who failed to reach the second round of the boys singles competition, took part in a consolation event. The eventual winner was Adam Dismore, who had to play eight games in total, including the final which he won 15-8 against William Clarke.
