Norfolk U11s/U15s Moderates

Norfolk U11s/U15s Moderates tournament: 2 March 2013

The U11s Girls singles was played in 3 groups with Gemma Peters coming out top of one to play Chloe Hall. The other group saw Poppy Williams defeat young Phoebe Claxton who was the highest placed group runner-up. The final saw Gemma meet Poppy, with the former decisively taking the title, 21-9. However, Poppy and Chloe took their revenge in the doubles, where both they and Gemma with partner, Eden Harrison, won all their matches but between the two pairs, Poppy and Chloe came out top 21-13.

7 year old Harry Wakefield continued the form he showed in the recent U9s Moderates but this time faced older and stronger opposition. Despite dropping a game to Oliver Housden, he went through to the semis as group runner-up and faced Louis Davis, whom he beat 21-18. Similarly fellow Downham Juniors and West Norfolk player, Jamie Salas-Brown went through to the semis having dropped his match against Louis, but Jamie went on to defeat Oliver, thus setting up a final between the two Downham Juniors with Harry coming out on top, 21-19, in a clearly close final. The two paired up and took the doubles event defeating Oliver Housden and K Furlong 21-19.

The U15s events saw some equally close matches in the boys events. Played in 3 groups, Aidan Parfitt, Ben Watts and Callum Granger emerged top and Daniel Hughes highest runner-up. The older players, Ben and Callum, demonstrated their superior age and strength in the semis, defeating respectively Aidan 21-9, and Daniel 21-8 and Ben continued his winning ways, taking the title 21-12. The two West Norfolk finalists paired up and took the doubles title, their closest game being 21-17 against losing singles semi-finalists, Aidan Parfitt and Daniel Hughes.

The girls U15s singles was dominated by Ella Ainsworth-Harrold. She took the singles title without allowing any of her opponents to reach more than double figures, Megan Housden taking the most points off her in the final – 8-21. With scratch-partner, Kirsten Jeavons, Ella reached the doubles final but the North Norfolk Juniors pairing of Megan Housden and Rebecca Pitt took the title 21-17.
